Vincenzo Gabrielli came over to Great Britain with many other young men from Italy to work at Stanton Iron Works.
Affectionally known as ‘Vince’, he had a career spanning over 40 years at Stanton Iron Works. Coming to Stanton in 1955 Vince quickly moved up the ladder. He started as a ground shunter for Stanton’s internal railways and then became a locomotive cleaner, a steam locomotive fireman and then a driver.
Vince worked with both steam and Deisel at Stanton and stayed for many years finally working in the offices before moving on to pastures new.
Vince was very well loved by his friends and family and was a real character. He was very well respected by his fellow workmates at Stanton.
Whilst working at Stanton Iron Works Vincenzo Gabrielli met his wife Pat and they had two children, Annamaria and Julian.
The Gabrielli family then expanded again with grandchildren and today Vince would be a great great grandfather.
Vince sadly died aged 88 in 2021but many of his family still live in the Erewash area.
Many thanks to Dario Gabrielli for the information and photographs of his Grandfather.
